Phox - Chicago - 10-22-14

A few weeks ago I got to ride along with Phox and photograph two private shows they had in Chicago. For those unfamiliar with them, they are a local band here in Madison that is doing really well. And they are really great people to spend a day with!

Here's a video that will give you a good idea of their sound: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tcnQ9-qWSfc

The first show was a short acoustic set at an advertising agency. I guess the idea is to familiarize the staff there with the Phox sound so they think of including them in ad campaigns. It was in a fairly slick cafeteria / meeting space with lots of glass and metal. Everyone was really friendly and the scene was relaxed with people hanging out while the band set up. Their set was really nice. I've only seen them as a full on band so it was interesting to see the songs with simpler arrangements. The vocal harmonies stood out more which brought extra sweetness to the proceedings.

And then a dash across town to the Thalia Theater for private concert that Target was putting on. I never really got the scoop on exactly what was going on. There were little scenes all around the main floor -- couches and a scooter and a telephone booth. Little sets done in black, white and red. Clothing and accessories were in abundance and all matched the look of the scenes. During the event, models hung out near the scenes... Very interesting.

Anyhow, Phox was the opener and I took a bunch of pictures.
